Community Guidelines

At Mendis, we are building a safe, supportive, and respectful space for men with disability to connect, share, and grow. By joining, you agree to follow these Community Guidelines in all online and in-person sessions.

Respect & Safety

  • Treat all members with respect, even when you disagree.
  • No harassment, bullying, hate speech, or discrimination of any kind.
  • Respect personal boundaries. Do not pressure others to share more than they are comfortable with.

Confidentiality

  • What is shared in sessions stays in sessions. Do not record, screenshot, or share other people’s stories without consent.
  • Respect the privacy of all participants and facilitators.

Peer Support, Not Therapy

Mendis is peer-led. We share experiences, strategies, and encouragement. It is not a replacement for therapy or medical care. Please see our Disclaimer for details.

Participation

  • You are welcome to join sessions in whatever way feels comfortable — talk, listen, laugh, or just show up quietly.
  • Respect speaking turns in Zoom and in-person groups. Avoid dominating or interrupting.
  • Be on time where possible; let us know if you can’t attend.

Safe Storytelling

  • Share from your own experience — avoid giving direct medical or therapeutic advice.
  • Avoid graphic detail that may distress others; focus on feelings and learnings rather than shock value.
  • Remember that vulnerability is powerful, but safety comes first.

Online Etiquette

  • Mute your microphone when not speaking to reduce background noise.
  • Use respectful names and avatars in Zoom/online spaces.
  • No disruptive behaviour, spamming, or off-topic posting.

Consequences

  • Minor breaches may result in a warning.
  • Serious or repeated breaches may result in removal from sessions or suspension of membership.
  • Mendis reserves the right to protect the community and remove members who cause harm.

Need Support?
