Here are answers to the most common questions about MENDIS. If you don’t see what you need, contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

What if I’m in crisis?

MENDIS isn’t a crisis service. If there’s immediate danger, call 000. If you need urgent mental health support, contact local crisis services in your state.

What is Mendis?

MENDIS is a peer-led support community for men with disability. We run online and in-person groups that focus on connection, identity, and well-being. Everything is built around lived experience, not clinical therapy.

What’s the difference between Rookie and Pro?

  • Rookie – free, includes access to weekly open Zoom sessions and community updates.
  • Pro – paid membership, includes unlimited session passes, plus access to courses, meditations, and exercise videos via the MENDIS dashboard.

How do I upgrade to Pro?

Go to the Upgrade Page and complete the checkout form. If you’re an NDIS participant, choose “Plan Managed” or “Self Managed” and we’ll issue invoices accordingly.

Can I use my NDIS funding?

Yes. MENDIS services are aligned with psycho social and community participation supports. We provide NDIS-compliant invoices and receipts. Claims must be approved by your plan manager if you are plan-managed.

If you’re unsure, ask your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager what applies to your plan. (Also note: an unregistered provider can’t deliver supports from an NDIA-managed part of your plan.)

How do plan-managed payments work (if I’m plan-managed)?

Generally, providers invoice the participant’s Plan Manager, and invoices should include an ABN.

What outcomes can I expect?

Outcomes vary, but common wins include: Increased social and community participation Improved confidence, communication, self-advocacy Stronger routine, motivation, and informal supports Better well-being through connection and purpose.

What are session passes?

Session passes are a way to attend group programs (either online or in person). Pro members get unlimited passes. Rookies can purchase additional passes separately if needed.

What happens if I can’t make a session?

If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, your pass will be credited back. Late cancellations or no-shows are not credited. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for details.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. What is shared in sessions stays in sessions. Please see our Community Guidelines for more on safe and respectful participation. No. MENDIS is peer support, not therapy or clinical treatment. We share experiences and strategies, but we are not a substitute for medical or psychological advice. See our Disclaimer.

Is MENDIS counselling or therapy?

No. MENDIS is peer support with facilitation. It’s not counselling, psychology, or clinical treatment.

What happens in a MENDIS circle?

Circles are structured and calm. Typically you’ll see: A check-in (what’s going on/ what you’re working on) A guided topic (confidence, stress, routine, relationships, purpose, social connection) Practical next steps (small actions you can actually do). You can talk, or you can just listen, either is fine.

What are meetups?

Meetups are more social and relaxed. Think: connection, activity, getting out of the house (or logging in online) with other men who understand.

Is it confidential

Yes. What’s shared in the group stays in the group, except if there’s a serious safety risk ( e.g., someone is at immediate risk of harm). Clear boundaries and respect are non-negotiable.

I’m nervous about groups, what if I don’t want to talk?

That’s normal. You can start slow. We’ll explain how it works, and you’re never forced to share.

Can a Support Coordinator refer someone?

Yes. With participant consent preferred, referrals are welcome. If helpful (and with consent), MENDIS can provide basic participation notes for reporting.
